Uefa has charged Chelsea players Didier Drogba and Jose Bosingwa for insulting the referee after their Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona.

Disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated against Chelsea for the improper conduct of their players and the throwing of missiles by their fans.

Uefa has asked for a response by 29 May and will deal with the case on 17 June.

Odd that Ballack escaped being charged, due to it happening during the game, I believe. I guess they felt the ref should have or would have dealt with it if he thought it was a problem. Bosingwa gets nailed for being quoted in the papers, wasn't other Chelsea players quoted as well? Maybe uefa doesn't trust the accuracy of the British press and feel the Portugueses press is more reliable?

This could be very interesting - Its being said if the club feels they are dealt with too harshly - The club will take UEFA to court.

I wonder if the other big clubs will chip in as they do with other court cases against UEFA lol

On the other hand - there are those who wish UEFA will get on with it so we can move on certain players.

Whatever happens - all three are guilty - and we are still waiting for UEFA to comment on their choice of Ref for that game.

I shant hold my breath.

Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Jose Bosewinga have had their European bans reduced by one match by Uefa.

Striker Drogba was suspended for "offensive comments" made when reacting to his side's Champions League semi-final defeat by Barcelona in May.

However, Drogba, 31, successfully pleaded his case in person alongside team-mate Bosingwa, 26, who had his ban reduced from three matches to two.

A suspended ban for another two games is still in place for Drogba

No surprise in the reduction, uefa always set a punishment and reduce it on appeal.

Don't have a problem with the Bosingwa reduction since all he really said was that Chelsea were robbed and a few other people connected with Chelsea said the same thing. Drogba's verbal abuse of the ref was really scary, I thought he was actually going to physically attack the ref. Thought his suspension should have stood if not increased.

You mean the referee being totally useless and costing Chelsea a place in the final?

You don't hear much of uefa punishing refs for having a bad game. They tend to ignore it and hope it goes away. At least in the Premier the ref gets demoted if he's made a lot of mistakes and adversely effected the game.

Dermot Gallegher, ex Ref was on Chelsea Tv n said he does not believe that Ref will ever get another CL game.
