PostSubject: Paddy Kenny fails drug test   Wed Jul 08, 2009 4:46 pm

Sheffield United keeper Paddy Kenny is facing a ban after testing positive for the stimulant ephedrine in a urine sample given after the Blades' play-off semi-final against Preston in May.

Kenny will have to prove there was no significant fault or negligence surrounding his positive drugs test if he is to avoid a two-year ban.

While it seems stupid that a player could do serious damage to his career for taking a couple of over the counter tablets for a chest infection. With the a long list of banned substances, Kenny should have been responsible enough to check with his club physio that the medicine he was taking did not include any of the substances that he was not allowed to take.

It's a shame that Kenny may face a two year ban, for taking his eye of the ball for a minute, but in today's game he really should have know better.

Well I hope common sense overcomes letter of the law in this case - a 2 year ban will pretty much end his career.

At least he was there for his drug test and was obviously under the impression nothing would be wrong.

You would think there would be so common sense here, but the FA is not noted for that.

I wouldn't want to see Kenny get a two year ban, but I think that is the maximum penalty and not the automatic amount. He may end up being banned for around 6 months, since I doubt the FA will let him walk away Scott free.

You make a good point Tick, it will be harsh if he is banned for a huge amount of time. S presume there will be some ban, just to set an example.
