Think the question is, why not?

He isnt getting any younger. A nice little project to challenge himself with at the end of his career.

Such a level may allow him to extend his career as well as be of some use to the younger players at the club.

It's been suggested he may be looking at a coaching role down the road and that could be part at what he is doing at Notts county.

I just find it strange that a player who is still sort after by a number of premiership clubs - would turn them down n take up a playing position in the bottom division.

Its not normal practice, unless a manager or at least coach role is attached. Granted thats what he probably is looking at down the line, but to turn down a team like Aston Villa for this, for me is very weak.

It must be said he has made a career of making strange decisions - I hope this one turns out well.

The length of the contract may have something to do with it. Some reports say it is a 6 year contract, while most say it's a 5 year deal. But he's 35 years old next month, I can't see anyone in the Premier giving him more than a one or maybe two year deal.
