| Was watching this the same time as Arsenal/Porto.
Referee Tom Henning Ovrebo and his crew has to be the story here. I am sure Tick remembers this guy.
How this guy got another top level game is beyond me after what happened last year. But he's out of his depth at this level. I can image what Fergie would have said about his fitness level, cant seem to stay up with the play.
Comical ending to the first half, Ribery is pulled down in the box and the ball comes to another Bayern player who puts it in the net. Ovrebo waives off the goal and gives the penalty Not sure if that was the correct call but he got lucky when Robben converted the penalty.
Later Robben touches the ball past Massimo Gobbi, who uses his shoulderand his elbow to prevent Robben going round him. It was a foul maybe even a yellow but didn't look like a straight red. Plus the ref was too far behind the play and had to go on the linesman's call.
Finally Bayern win the game in the 89th minute with a goal by Klose that was a mile offside. Same linesman makes the call, or didn't make the call.
Fiorentina have to be fuming about this one, but a 2-1 lose on the road isn't too bad and the away goal may prove to be decisive here. _________________ |

| Its amazing how many mistakes are made by scandinavian officials.
Arsenals game also had a blunder by the ref (Guess where he was from) causing a goal and its now becoming almost a lottery in Europe in as far as the standard of official you get.
The problem is top refs from Italy Spain Germany and England cant officiate in games involving clubs from their league.
This is the reason that twat got the Chelsea Barcelona game last season, they run out of Refs from the bigger leagues.
I think its about time this offcials from the smaller leagues got some airtime in the bigger leagues.
2 months each season in 3 top leagues and a 2 months in there own country. Experience will benefit all. |

| The ref in the Arsenal game was the same one who missed Henry's handball in France's World Cup play-off win over Ireland.
I assume the mistake in this game you are talking about is the quick free kick inside the box that Porto scored on. Former Premier League referees, Dermot Gallagher and Graham Poll are saying the ref was right in allowing the kick to be taken quickly. The only debate seems to be if Campbell's touch on the ball was deliberately or accidental. _________________

There has been talk of bringing in officials from Europe to add to the numbers in the Premier because I believe they are in need of more. However, I think they were mentioning refs like Collina, not inexperienced ones from the smaller countries.
Having refs from smaller countries referee in the big three leagues would certainly benefit in the long run after they had become seasoned. Hard to imagine the clubs in those leagues being in favour of the idea. Although it would be funny to see Tom Henning Ovrebo referee a Chelsea game, give a dodgy penalty and an offside goal to their opponent, causing Chelsea to drop three points and finish second a point or two behind the winners.
The official FIFA list for referees is quite long and you would think there are enough experienced refs from countries like Belgium, Holland, or Scotland without using these inexperienced refs from smaller countries until it was felt they were up to the job._________________ |

| Over the years United have had their share of bad decisions in Europe, but so has all the English clubs that have ever played in European Competitions all the way back to the beginning of the European Cup in the mid 50's. It was usually referees who gave dodgy decisions in favour of the home side but now because of the growth of European games and the need for more referees it seems to be the poor quality of some of the refs from the smaller leagues. _________________ |
