Real Madrid after spending £240m on players in the summer crashes out of the Champions League and the Spanish league is now their only chance of silverware this season.

This one surprised me Real had been playing well and had taken over first place in Spain. They had chance after chance to put Lyon away but couldn't do and you wonder how long Manuel Pellegrini will last as manager.

Lyon have done well against them on a number of times - kinda a bogey team.

They also had the misfortune of pulling one of the only 2 teams in the runners up pot that could cause a problem to any of the cream.

You only have to look at the standard of Porto and Milan to see how unlucky Madrid were to get Lyon.

Been watching them this season.. and over past few weeks they have been great.. mainly due to Ronaldo playing well aswell. Higuain is another that's been class this season, but obviously.. he was already at the club.. but i'd say he is close behind Ronaldo as to being their best player so far this season. They should of beat Lyon.. but it's too predictable.. they will now sack Pellegrini, at the very most.. he will last till the end of the season. Ronaldo scored against Lyon.. but he needed more from the team. Benzema, who they bought from Lyon.. hasn't lived up to the hype at all so far this season.. he's scored a few goals, but he seems to be behind Higuain in the pecking order now.

I could see him going there for a year or two until Fergie's ready to retire.

I not sure if he will or won't become United's manager one day. I know the bookies have him favourite to become the next manager at United. I can't figure out if it would be a good fit for either Mourinho or United.

I do know that United made a mistake when Matt Busby retired in replacing him with a series of managers who weren't in Busby's class and they won't want to make the same mistake when Ferguson retires. O'Neill, Blanc, or Moyes are all good young managers, but lack the charisma and dominating personality that Ferguson has. I think it is too soon for any of them to replace Ferguson. To me only Mourinho or Capello or maybe Wenger could replace Ferguson. Whether they would get any of those, I don't really know.

As for Mourinho going to Real Madrid, I have think he is smarter than that. It is such as circus there and they go through managers ever year and and a half. Mourinho has to be getting to the point in his life where he wants some stability, there isn't any at Real Madrid. Barcelona would be a better option if he wants to manage in Spain and be the only manager to win titles in the top three leagues. But Barcelona seem set for years with Guardiola.

Of course he may decide to go to Real Madrid for one year, win the Spanish League and then come back to the Premier, you never know with Mourinho.

Thats funny - cause its exactly the same reason why Chelsea fans know he wouldnt manage United.

Thats not being disrepectful to United as a club - Its a plan thruth about the man.

I not quite sure what you are getting at.

United would offer Mourinho the best chance of managing somewhere for 10-12 years with a club that from a day to day football perspective is as well run as anybody. It's also one of the few top clubs where Mourinho would be able to manager with out a lot of involvement from the owners. It's possible that Mourinho may feel that he would get more recognition in returning Liverpool to the top or taking Man City there than just continuing what Ferguson has done with United. But I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up managing United, but then again it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.

Just know the feller - He has no interest in United - He will use them as he used England.

Plus - United wont touch him - They have had one man rule the club for decades - there will be those at the club who will want a manager with less power - and the last thing they need is a man who is brighter than the present overlord.

That would be a mistake, if they were to replace Ferguson with somebody they thought they could control and give him less power. United has had success has under Busby and Ferguson and they need to replace like with like.

Of course thats what the club needs - but that wont happen.

Next manager will be a ex United player who the fans can look upon as one of their own and make the owners decision popular.

Jose is too clever to get involved with United and will use them as a fog screen to what his true plans are.

I cant see any top manager who has already proved himself touching the United hotseat after Fergie - If history teaches us anything - Never follow the most succesful manager in any clubs history.

I think Guardiola may replace Fergie... with all the political crap over there. He might not get more than his current deal, which is the year after next. A decent, proven, young manager, who plays decent football. I would say he is an ideal replacement as anyone.
