PostSubject: Liverpool for Fourth?   Sun Aug 28, 2011 7:44 pm

This was alluded to earlier when discussing the players Liverpool brought in. At the time I had said their best chance of fourth was if Arsenal and Spurs self imploded. Liverpool looked good yesterday against Bolton while today I doubt if many of us have ever seen a worse looking Arsenal side and Spurs weren't much better either.

Wenger's reluctance to spend, inability to hold on to his better players, and a massive injury list have Arsenal thankful for the International break and Swansea, Blackburn and Bolton in their next three games. While I was happy to see United play so well today, it has to be realized that that was one incredibly weak Arsenal team.

City ran roughshod over a Spurs team that did compete until they went behind 2-0, but gave up after that. Throw in that Modric who doesn't want to be there, and was one of their better players today and you have another team in serious trouble. With games coming up with Wolves away to Liverpool and then Wigan, the seventh game of the season Arsenal at Spurs could be a relegation battle.

If Liverpool don't finish fourth this year King Kenny will have some explaining to do.

Been saying this since before the start of the season. There are no excuses now, everything is as the fans wanted and there is no Euro football to knacker the squad.

4th would be an over acheivement.

With Kenny we wont have the media driving the fans and whatever happens he wont be under any pressure at the end of the season unless he finish outside top 6.

A lot of buys and I guess the one point that is crucial which has been mentioned there just is that we have no European football to distract us - we have a big squad.

A net spend of just over £30 million by FSG and Damien Comolli - for our squad that weve got - I dont think thats too bad. Henderson obviously over priced and Carroll and exception to the rule - we have a good squad but our starting xi (whatever that is) is about 3 if not 4 top class players short in terms of playing for anything serious.

They could finish fourth. Spurs & Arsenal are far weaker this season. Arsenal have no depth at all. If Liverpool avoid injuries and Gerrard returns fit & on form, there is no reason why they cant squeek the 4th spot.
