PostSubject: Ideas to attract new members   Sun May 03, 2009 11:43 pm

Was wondering if anyone can come up with a few ideas to attract a few new members?

I have been posting the link where ever I go on the net that may attract some action. Anyone know how we can link the site to any of the search engines? Maybe set up a group on face book or other such sites.

Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Why don't you just tell people to register, Via Facebook.

Update your status on FB .. too the link of this site.. and' i am sure a few will see it.. or tell people about it on Facebook.. but thats just a quick idea off top of my head.

Posted a note on my wall on Facebook with a link to the site. Maybe others could do the same.

With my rugby forum for Salford city reds I created a group on facebook and advertised on other Salford groups, rugby groups etc and sent bulletins to members with links.
You will be suprised by the amount of members you get via this way.
Make it sound attrctive and post the link wherever possible.
Register the site with google and the other search sites.
It helps.
However Rome wasn't built in a day and it can take some time Smile

The problem is neither Tick nor I are very good at that sort of thing. Have tried to those things, but obviously have not done it correctly.

Anyone of Facebook should invite all their friends to join the group.

Not sure what help this would do but do we have a website hits counter to see how many we hits we get during the day?

There were about 4 guests online a few moments ago and they were from the far east, one in Italy, one from America and one in the UK...

Yep - thats the perfect answer.

I have been keeping a count of the visitors we get n from which area they are over the last month.

Obviously none of these have joined up - outside of a spamer which I managed to delete last week.

North America 22
South America 3
Europe 31
Asia 16
Australia 3

We are getting the traffic, just not the members.

If we open the board up for people to post without a membership it will get spammed.

Best way to get new members involved is by word of mouth. Entice friends or peers that you have conversations with in the pub about football etc to join up. All it takes is a simple email with the link, to someone you know isnt a moron (or at least not much of one) and they will find the forum is a fun place to debate and banter about football especially and that there is also places to dabble in the other sports.

Its a pity that the points system isnt like before (in the old forum) where everyone could donate them. I would certainly find the betting system easier to run and other people could do competitions etc and the whole place would be more exciting. Perhaps Tick and Red could contact the powers behind the board people (niceboard or whoever it may be) and suggest such a way that they could make all their boards better. I think everyone being able to donate points is definitely a better option.

im just going to put forward an idea, just my own opinion, take it as you please Wink
When i go on a new forum for the first time i look at the layout and wether i stay on that forum is down to the initial layout of the categories.
In my opinion, there are to many categories and forums on the forum index.
My point being, when a guest arrives on the site and sees over 20 categories with posting dating back several months say in the boxing thread for example, it makes the forum look less lively and less appealing.
I suggest condensing the categories a little using sub forums. Thus making the forum look more open and appealing.

Hey Dan - your thoughts are always welcome. We really do need some fresh members so any ideas you have, spit them out mate.

When a punter finds our board, currently he\she cant see the forum outside of the welcome thread. Over the past year we have tried opening up the board to anyone to read, part sections n as now, a punter having to sign up to see whats it all about.

None have proved to be more succesful than the other in actully getting someone to sign up.

Word of mouth seems to be the best way of getting people to sign up. I think people like to know they have a friend at a new board who can hold their hand so to speak.

I will open the premiership section (Most popular) today to non members to see if that brings anything new.

I believe so - we currently have a few ideas being sorted out by members which arised from a meeting we all had a week or so ago. Alas your good self Dan & Huzup were away holidaying. You both would have been valuable minds at that meeting.

I am sure we will call another in a couple of weeks just as a update to that meeting.
